TIPS
💡 Call the Emergency 24-Hour Study Hotline (US/UK/CA) if clinical condition necessitates a cooling duration change.
*If randomized to a cooling duration*
💡Maximizing surface area coverage and using sedation and neuromuscular blockade during initial cooling will help the subject reach the goal within 2 hours of randomization.
💡 Have a team member present at enrollment and remain until subject is within the temperature range and study processes are stable and understood by nursing staff.
💡 Make sure the clinical team notifies the research team for temperatures out of range.
💡 Check in with nursing staff at shift change. A phone call is fine.
💡 If there is a discrepancy of greater than 1 ◦C between the two measurements, the temperature probes should be inspected for proper positioning and function. If there is a discrepancy of 2 ◦C or greater, call the hotline.
💡 Rewarm over at least 16 hours.
💡 Sedation and neuromuscular blockade recommended to prevent shivering and too rapid rewarming.
💡 Watch glucose and potassium closely.
💡 Call hotline if any questions.
